Lakeside, Bayport Park and Beyond: The Communities Around Lake Fenton

October 28, 2026 · John Tremaine

When people say they live "on Lake Fenton," they could mean several different places. Here's how the community around the lake fits together.

The Lake Fenton census-designated place

For statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau defines a Lake Fenton census-designated place (CDP) in the northeast corner of Fenton Charter Township, Genesee County. It had 5,905 residents in the 2020 census. Its neighbors are:

  • North: Mundy Township
  • West: the rest of Fenton Township
  • South: the City of Fenton
  • East: Holly Township in Oakland County

All of the lake except its southern end lies inside the CDP. The southern tip is within the City of Fenton.

Lakeside and Bayport Park

The CDP includes two unincorporated communities right on the water:

  • Lakeside, on the east side of the lake, a short distance north of Fenton.
  • Bayport Park, on the north side of the lake.

More lakes close by

Lake Fenton isn't the only water in the area. The CDP also includes Petts Lake, Crooked Lake, McCully Lake, Dollar Lake, Little Long Lake and Barnum Lake. Water covers about 23.5% of the CDP's 7.2 square miles.

Three ZIP codes, one lake

Addresses around the lake can carry a Fenton (48430), Linden (48451) or Grand Blanc (48439) ZIP code. That's worth knowing when you search listings, because a lake home may not show up under "Fenton" alone.

How the lake got its name

A settlement here was platted as "Mount Pleasant" by John Cook in 1840. It was renamed "Long Lake" in 1850, and a Long Lake post office opened in 1851. The lake was later renamed Lake Fenton, and in 1932 the U.S. Board on Geographic Names made that the official name.
